Nice to meet you!

I'm Chloe Gardener, a multimedia journalist with just over 4 years' working experience in the industry.

I have experience with audio and video editing programmes such as Premiere Pro and Audacity, as well as Adobe's graphic design programmes (InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator). Outside of my studies, I have also done sub-editing and copy writing work.

I have some experience managing social media profiles such as Instagram, TikTok and Twitter/X.

I'm a quick learner who gets the job done to a high standard and with a high level of gusto!

I've written publications including The Times, Empoword Journalism, The Indiependent, The Clyde Insider and The Collective Magazine. I'm very interested in covering social issues at a local level, writing about mental health, film/television, gaming and culture.

I believe that the media we consume has an impact on how we view the world and always love a deep dive into pieces of media.  â€‹

Before venturing into journalism, I had a background in art - which means I love weaving visual storytelling skills into my work through graphic design and photography; which comes in handy with my work on the Women in Journalism Scotland committee.

Education

2021-2023

HND Practical Journalism
Glasgow Clyde College

During this time, I studied several modules alongside practical work to an industry standard. Broadcast journalism, print journalism with news writing and feature articles, alongside a steady stream of public affairs and Scots Law (with a lean on reporting restrictions and the IPSO editor guides). In my first year, I wrote an in-depth feature article for my graded unit about the cost of living crisis in Govan, one of Glasgow's poorest areas. In my 2nd year, alongside studying the modules, I worked in collaboration with my classmates to create a student magazine, The Mixx, that was printed and distributed across all three GCC campuses.

2023-2025

BA HONS Journalism
Robert Gordon University

Joining directly to the 3rd year of the course, there was still a practical aspect though it leaned more into the academic side of journalism; postmodern culture, public affairs, freelancing in media, as well as media history were all modules that the course covered.

In the Honours year, there was of course a focus on the research project (aka a dissertation) to which I am writing about how the pandemic shaped nostalgic internet aesthetics (e.g. cottagecore). However, I also studied: investigative journalism, media strategy and innovation, postmodern culture, women and the media and public affairs.
